FAQs

We want to make your child's start at the Pre-School as easy as possible. We will ask you to come to the setting for two short stay and plays; the first visit of 30 mins, this is when you meet your child's key person and the rest of the team. You will be asked to fill in all the relevant paper work and discuss sessions and what you expect from a setting. The more knowledge we have about your child the easer their transition to Pre-School will be. The second stay and play will be for 1 hour and you will leave your child/children with us to play, we do this so that your child will be familiar with the setting without their parent/carer. If you feel that you would like to spend more time with your child/children in the setting or you would like the transition to be for a longer period of time please speak to a member of the team.

Please dress your child/children in clothes you do not mind getting dirty; the children will play in all sorts of different ways using lots of different textures and natural materials, such as paint, water, mud etc. We enjoy messy play :) If possible could you also dress them in clothes that are easy for them to put on and take off, young children enjoy being as independent as they are able to be. Always dress them in appropriate clothes for the weather; we are happy for you to leave a spare pair of Wellington boots at the setting; We like all the children to explore our outside areas in all weathers.

If you are concerned that your child/children may have difficulty settling in to the settings routine, please express your concerns when you visit the setting. There are lots of techniques we can put in place to help them settle in.

You must put any health concerns your child/children have onto the registration form and also tell the setting when you come for your first visit. You will be given a health care plan to sign and then your child/children's picture will go on the wall so that all members of the team are aware and act accordingly.

All children who are eligible to receive funding will get it the term after their 2nd or 3rd birthday this includes the 30 hours working parents funding. If you have any questions about funding please email or speak to Misss Battle (finance and admin).

Each child is allocated a key person upon admission who is available to discuss in confidence any worries/ concerns that either you of the key worker may have regarding your child or their behaviour. The role of the key person is to support the child and the family for the duration of their time at Pre-School. The key person is able to observe and record information on the child, and use it within the curriculum planning to ensure that opportunities are offered to build on the existing skills and needs of each child. The key person will endeavour to build and develop relationships with the family, encouraging parent to contribute information to assist with their child’s development. A Unique Child book was introduced in September 2008 and which once completed by the parent gives the key person lots of useful information on the child and a starting point for their records. You are welcome to look at your child’s file/book which will contain pieces of work by your child and observations on your child. Please arrange a time with the key worker. If you wish to speak to the key worker urgently then please do ask.

A full copy of policies and procedures are available for you to look at in the Pre-School – please ask – however a booklet containing policies will be given to you/ placed in your child’s book bag for you to read through. PLEASE TAKE TIME TO DO THIS SO THAT YOU ARE AWARE OF OUR POLICIES – THIS INCLUDES OUR BEHAVIOUR POLICY WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT.

Yes you can; The role of the committee is an important one and any offers of help however big or small is always appreciated. If you are interested please ask a member of the team they will tell you how you can join.

You are welcome to discuss this in confidence with the Manager who will try to resolve it to both yours and their satisfaction.

If you wish another session for your child please fill out the relavent paperwork. You will be notified ASAP if one is available. Please try and give us as much notice as possible if you wish to do this so that we can then claim nursery funding for this extra session if necessary.

We have several ways to communicate with parents. We use SMS message, tapestry and parents evenings as well as the ways you have already put. You can speak to your child's key worker at a time convenient for both of you - either when picking up/dropping off and if this is not possible you can arrange an appointment. Please check the web-site or the notice board on a regular basis! We will put most information in your child's book bag or will hand it directly to you/send in the post.

Yes of course. We encourage all parents to help out in the group. It gives you the opportunity to take an active part in the group to see what happens there and talk about it afterwards with your child.

We would be grateful if you would not send your child if they are unwell, especially if they show signs/symptoms of tummy bug, conjunctivitis, impetigo etc. as these are very contagious. PLEASE REMEMBER IF YOUR CHILD HAS A STOMACH BUG THEY SHOULD NOT RETURN TO PRE-SCHOOL UNTIL 48 HOURS AFTER THE LAST BOUT OF SICKNESS. If your child has chicken pox we would advise you to keep them at home until the spots have scabbed over totally before they return to Pre-School. You know your own child so you are aware if they are well enough to attend Pre-School, however we would be grateful if you could advise us when you drop your child off if you have any concerns about their health so that we may keep an eye on them and contact you if necessary. We would also ask that you complete the medication book if you administer any medicine prior to your child coming into Pre-School. You should also complete an asthma book if your child suffers from this – one will be given to you to complete if you return the registration form stating your child suffers from this condition. Could you please also ensure that you check your child’s hair regularly for head lice/eggs and treat hair appropriately if necessary.

We would also ask that you contact us if your child is not going to attend Pre-School so that we are aware of this. PLEASE NOTE THAT CONTINUED UNEXPLAINED ABSENCES MAY RESULT IN YOUR CHILD’S SESSIONS BEING CANCELLED. THIS INCLUDES ANY SESSIONS THAT ARE NURSERY FUNDED. WE ARE A BUSY PRE-SCHOOL AND HAVE A LONG WAITING LIST OF CHILDREN WISHING TO ATTEND AND THEREFORE FEEL THAT IT IS UNFAIR FOR CHILDREN TO BE CONTINUALLY ABSENT FOR SESSION(s). PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU ARE PAYING FEES FOR YOUR CHILD YOU STILL HAVE TO PAY THESE EVEN IF YOUR CHILD DOES NOT ATTEND PRE-SCHOOL AS THEIR SPACE IS KEPT OPEN FOR THEM (THIS INCLUDES ANY HOLIDAYS TAKEN IN TERM TIME) IF YOU ARRANGE A FAMILY HOLIDAY DURING TERM TIME WHICH IS LONGER THAN 2 WEEKS AND YOUR CHILD IS IN RECEIPT OF NURSERY EDUCATION FUNDING WE ARE OBLIGED TO INFORM THE CITY COUNCIL OF THIS - THIS WILL MEAN THAT NURSERY EDUCATION FUNDING IS WITHDRAWN FOR THE LENGTH OF ABSENCE (EG FOUR WEEK HOLIDAY) AND PARENTS/ CARERS ARE THEN RESPONSIBLE FOR MONIES DUE FOR THE MISSED SESSIONS. FAILURE TO PAY MAY RESULT IN SESSIONS BEING WITHDRAWN FROM YOUR CHILD AND GIVEN TO A CHILD ON THE WAITING LIST FUNDING FOR YOUR CHILD WOULD RESUME UPON YOUR CHILD'S RETURN TO PRE-SCHOOL SUBJECT TO FEES BEING PAID.

Yes we arrange for a photographer to come in twice a year – at Christmas to take individual photographs of the children and in June/July to take group photographs. There are other activities which you will be advised by letter or by a notice on the board/window.
